I tried everything cheaper and ended up with these as the cheapest thing that sounds and records like hihats. Heavy and focused but mellow enough to not get on one’s nerves. The rock and mastersound versions I think would get on my nerves.Zildjian has a demo video for the S line you can search for which should make it clear how nice and versatile the vanilla 14” S are. I also think Zildjian are the only makers of a real hihat sound but that’s my history of playing them for 40 years and never being tempted away.Another thing that’s nice is using these as a bottom hat for thinner tops. Focuses the sound and removes a lot of pitch bend.
